Why Twitter?

We have heard the hype according to Oprah, Ashton Kutcher, CNN, Brittany Spears and other A & B list celebrities.

But how can business use it? This is one of the hottest & probably most Googled topic out there, so I am going to give it to you in short spurts & in my own opinion.

Disclosure: I teach Twitter classes as well as consult small businesses on how and why to use social media.

Twitter is wonderful, I have a secret love affair with it. My two year anniversary is coming up on May 16th & I am thrilled! I have used Twitter to connect with other like-minded Geeks when I was in a cubicle as well as keep up with the world of marketing.

Since the fall, Twitter has gone nuts in the world of small business. Small business actually has a chance now to show up the big dogs when it comes to communicating with customers. Transparency lives, communication thrives & transactions are being made because of the relationships made on Twitter. You can't get that from a billboard.

Here in Boise, there is case after case of small businesses connecting with new people, getting to know each other & when they finally meet in person - the awkwardness of meeting someone new is gone. And business can get done.

So, should you be on Twitter? Yes.

Should you have goals & objectives just like any other marketing plan? Yes.

Should you be yourself & have fun WHILE marketing, connecting & learning? But of course!

My New Gig With LifeFoods

About six weeks ago Jerome Eberharter contacted me through LinkedIn saying we should get together and chat about what social media can do for a business. This was my with-in my first 10 days of being hired on by Rochelle DeLong at Consilio, so of course I am eager to chat with anyone that wants to chat social media for a business!

I arrived at the coffee roaster's office (free coffee....you know that makes me a happy girl!) and met Jerome. You know when you meet someone & you just know that you KNOW them? It was like that. I would have said "how high" if he asked me to jump...and this was with-in minutes of meeting him - great things to come!

What Does He Want Me To Do?
After a few meetings with Jerome & his General Manager, Lori Minniear, (who has a great southern Louisana accent) Consilio agreed to seek out individuals & couples through social media wanting to become Fundraising Marketing Director's for LifeFoods. I will be using social media to educate and excite others about the benefits of owning a territory where the Fundraising Marketing Director will be the point person for athletic teams, churches, bands, day cares & any other group that wants to raise money for their organization.

Why Did We Sign On?
Fundraising is huge. We have all purchased cookes, pop-corn, coupons, candy-bars and cookie dough from the neighbor kid & this is an opportunity that goes beyond those 2-3 weeks of fundraising for those groups. There is a huge advantage of having an ON GOING revenue stream through an online store. Your purchases continues to benefit the group, team, church, band etc...with-out the knock on the door! Of course, every time they knock, I will buy!

My biggest personal experience with fundraising was for my Club Volleyball team in high school & a church group before that. How great would it have been if when those neighbors, aunts, grandparents, teachers & friends ran out of a product & were just able to re-order on the spot, rather than wait for the next kid to knock on the door?

What Will You Do?
Communicate with people with out selling them the expensive claims that are out there.
Teach them about the opportunity that is available.
Educate on what options they have as a franchise/affiliate.
Offer healthy choices to consumers that they use every day...not just high calorie treats.
Surprise them with the ongoing support & sales through a website (I lOVE this part!).

We are finally live and good to go! LifeFoods started as a dream, then gradually became reality. If you are looking for the ups and downs, the challenge and rewards and the joy of business building, you have come to the right place. We have all had years of business building experience and will gladly share ideas and tips with you.

And, if you need help with fundraising for your group, project or organization - we have the perfect system - simple, easy and profitable. We even have the perfect ready-made home business using our fundraising system. We'll tell you more about it in the upcoming posts.

This all got started in 1987 with White Cloud Coffee - gourmet coffee for wholesale accounts and grocery stores. Then in 1988, I started Moxie Java with Chris Binion and John Roberts - we wanted to serve fabulous coffee and food in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Our one store here in Boise eventually grew to 10. It was a wonderful 8 year partnership.

Our fund raising business is designed to create a new sales channel for White Cloud Coffee while helping hundreds of organizations raise much needed funds. Most of all, we are a continuing resource for groups, large and small, whether they want to raise a thousand dollars or $100,000. I hope you'll think of us as your fundraising advisory board.
